My name is Kaity, and I am a wedding and portrait photographer based in Calgary, Alberta.

I remember the exact moment when I realized I wanted to be a photographer … I was 14 years old, spending the summer in Osaka, Japan with my Mom. It was a difficult 2 months in many ways, but I fell in love with Japan, and what it gave to me. I was scheduled one afternoon to have a creative photoshoot done to build my modelling portfolio. I stepped into the studio and could see from across the room an enormous, vintage, large format polaroid film camera on a tripod. Once hair and makeup was done, I sat down on a stool in front of the large black box. The photographer carefully directed me while he took 8 different images, reloading this box with 8x10” film each time. He pulled the photo paper out, hung each developed photograph on a wire to set, and told me to keep my favourite image. Everything changed when I saw this old technology produce something so beautiful. The way I felt as the subject made me see myself differently as well. I wanted to share that confidence, and make other people feel how I did in that moment.

This initially lead me into fashion and beauty photography. I really focused on building a fashion portfolio through my years in college, and was published in multiple magazines. The summer after I graduated from ACAD (now AUArts), I was working at a small portrait studio in downtown Calgary. I had lost all 4 of my Grandparents while completing my education, 2 of them to cancer. A young family came in for a studio portrait session, and they shared their story with me, explaining it would be the last set of portraits they would have with the husband and father, due to his battle with cancer. This was the moment that made me realize I could press pause on real moments, and real stories that could be cherished for a lifetime. I could share an instant of happiness and love through my lens, and I started making the shift into wedding and portrait photography.

My inspiration stems from film, connection, and of course being a romantic myself. My style is simple, clean and timeless. I love that I get to spend my days with the most amazing people I would have possibly never met, sharing in their biggest and most joyous moments.
